The Barbara Karp Memorial AALL Annual Meeting Scholarship will cover up to $1500.00 for the 2024 conference set up by AALL for one member of SNELLA.  The due date for this application is May 15, 2024

GUIDELINES

ABOUT SNELLA  AWARDS:

In order to promote continuing education among its members, the Southern New England Law Librarians’ Association will maintain a Scholarship Fund. From the resources of that fund, the Association will award grants to its members to help support attendance at meetings, programs, and events with registration fees. There are two categories of awards. Awards will be considered for those educational meetings of which SNELLA is a sponsor or co-sponsor, for the annual meeting of the American Association of Law Libraries, and for institutes or other programming of continuing legal or library science education sponsored by professional associations or educational institutions.

All members are encouraged to apply.

APPLICATION REQUIRMENTS:

  1. The applicant must be a current member of SNELLA, with the current year’s dues paid, at the time the application is made.
  2. Applicants must complete the standard SNELLA Award application.
  3. For institutes and SNELLA sponsored or co-sponsored programs, the application must be received by the Chair of the Scholarship Committee at least 30 days before the latest registration date.
  4. For the AALL Annual Meeting, the application must be received by the Chair of the Scholarship Committee on or by April 30th of each calendar year.
  5. If for any reason an award cannot be used as requested, in full or in part, the award (or the unused portion thereof) will be returned to the Treasurer of SNELLA.

AWARD CRITERIA:

In selecting the award recipients, the Committee will consider the following factors:

a) Level of activity within SNELLA;

b) Participation as an officer, board member, committee chairman, member, speaker or other member activity in another law librarian organizations, such as AALL, LLNE, SLA or ACRL;

c) Lack of financial assistance from employer;

d) Newness to law librarianship and/or SNELLA;

e) Demonstrated commitment to law librarianship;

f) Content of proposed meeting, institute or program; and

g) Logistics such as amount of registration fee, location, and length of the meeting, institute or program.

AWARD RESTRICTIONS:

  1. No member shall receive an award in each category more frequently than every third year.
  2. Current Scholarship Committee members will be ineligible to receive awards during their tenure.

AVAILABLE AWARDS:

SNELLA Continuing Education Grant

The SNELLA Continuing Education Grant supports attendance at institutes or other programming related to continuing education in law librarianship as sponsored by professional associations or educational institutions.

Number of Awards: One per year

Award Amount: Varies but not to exceed $500.00

Deadline: The application must be received by the Chair of the Scholarship Committee at least 30 days before the latest registration date for the institute or program.

Restrictions: No member shall receive an award in this category more frequently than every third year.

Barbara Karp Memorial AALL Annual Meeting Scholarship Award

The AALL Annual Meeting Grant supports registration, travel, housing, and other expenses associated with attending the annual meeting of the American Association of Law Libraries.

Number of Awards: One per year

Award Amount: Varies but not to exceed $1500.00

Deadline: The application must be received on or by May 15th of each calendar year.

Restrictions: No member shall receive an award in this category more frequently than every third year.
